I only write on this matter, that you may be free, and not bound by law, Ephesians 3:12 & Galatians 5:1. We are no longer under the law. Christ is the end of the law, Romans 10:4. If we are no longer under the law, we are not required to obey the law and therefore not required to tithe. The new Testament never mentions for us to give a tenth of our income as an offering to the Lord. Tithing just isn't in the New Testament. If that is true, what about Abraham paying a tenth to Melchizedek, Hebrews 7:1-10. The real point of that account as quoted in the New Testament, is to show the supremacy of our priesthood in Christ as represented by Melchizedek over the priesthood of Levi , a descendent of Abraham. The tenth to Melchizedek from Abraham was a one time gift of a tenth of the spoils of war. This was of Abraham's own freewill as a public act of thanksgiving for a military victory, not as an act of obedience to a command of God. The fact that something was practiced before the law does not make it a permanent command of God. If we use Abraham as an example for tithing then shouldn't we follow him in other areas as well, such as circumcision and animal sacrifices. Galatians 5:2-6 explains that neither circumcision nor uncircumcision availeth anything, only faith which worketh by love. 1st. Corinthians 5:7 states Christ is our sacrifice, therefore animal sacrifice is no longer required. Conclusion is that tithing is no longer required of us, as we are joint heirs with Christ, Galatians 4:1-7. Jesus even told Peter that children are free of tribute or temple tax, Matthew 17:24-26.
In Christ,
